Natural Resources and a FREEEBIE!

We began our unit on Natural Resources vs. Man-Made Resources and Fast vs. Slow changes on Earth's Surface this week.  We have a series of hands-on experiments and activities planned. This is just the beginning. Here are a few fun picks of us in action!

This is our Anchor Chart of Resources. The stickies are all of their resources sorted into groups.

We went on a nature walk and used arrows to point out Natural or Man-Made Resources. She is pointing to the sun!

Look, a pole!

A jump rope…..

Then we added all of our findings to a GIANT Chart to hang in the hallway!

If you would like to try this activity and much, much more (over 3 weeks of plans) you can get it here Earth's Surface Science Unit

Within this study we play lots of cooperative learning games.  I wanted to share one with you for FREEEE!

Surgery and a SALE!!!

First of all CONGRATS to TpT!! They are 3 million teachers strong and I am so excited that I can be a part of it.  I am joining in on the celebration with their site wide sale from 2/27-3/01. ALL products in my store will be 28% off on 2/27-2/28 and then I am extending the sale to 3/01 where my products will be 20% off!! Okay enough of the advertising, on to the surgery!!

Today we dawned some surgeon gloves and completed Contraction Surgery.  Thankfully all of our contractions made it out alive!!  This was so much fun for the kiddos as an introductory lesson to contractions.  The kiddos put on their gloves and laid out the surgical tools (scissors, index cards, a marker, and bandaids).

Then we wrote 2 words on the index cards (For Example: do not). These words were now our patients. Then we had to cut out the sick part (o) and bandage the patient back to gather so it could make sense again.

I don't think I have ever seen them concentrating so hard.  It was a difficult task bandaging those patients with those gloves on!! Do you have a fun way to teach contractions?? I'd love to hear it!!

Have a great week!!

It's 100 Day!!!

So our 100th Day of School was about 3 weeks ago and I am just now getting around to sharing our fun.  Here are just a few activities from our fun filled day:

A view coming into the classroom.  I taped balloons around the frame of the door for the kids to walk in through.  Then I had blown up 100 balloons and left them loose all over the floor.  They LOVED it!!

Here are some 100 year old cuties!!

Love the pony tail!

For one of our activities the kiddos had to estimate what they thought weighed 100 pounds!  it was so funny to see some of the things they would put into the box.  The closest group to 100 was only about 58 pounds.

Another fun activity was to predict and investigate what ingredients were on the inside of a 100 grand chocolate bar.

Another super fun activity was that the kiddos had to predict what 100 drops of water would look like and then count out and measure 100 drops of water.

Of course these were just a few of the activities we did.  If you would like to try some of these in your classroom, you can get yours from Andrea Knight's packet 100 Days Of School This is a great resource packed full of a whole days worth of fabulous activities!  Thanks Andrea!!

And of course this is the 100 day old version of Mrs. Gingras (of course I look more like a wicked librarian……) Oh well, I tried!

Sight Word Soccer Freebie

Just wanted to share a fun sight word review game with you.  The kiddos love playing it and it is so easy to make.  Just get strawberry baskets and cut them in half to make the goals.  Then use the decorative gems that usually go inside vases for the soccer balls.  Instructions, tips, and recording sheets can be found in the freebie. You can download the freebie below! Here are some pics of our fun:

These are the gems and the baskets.

If you don't have the baskets, masking tape on the table works also!

Recording their words.

I hope you can use and enjoy this freebie!
