Remembering Sandy Hook

This week one year ago Sandy Hook was devastated. I will never forget that unnerving and tragic day.  I remember watching the news in disbelief as the events unfolded.  Now it is time to remember those kiddos with some kindness!   The people of Newtown, CT, have asked others to commit  random acts of kindness on December 14 to honor the teachers and students from Sandy Hook.
As educators, we remember and honor our fallen colleagues and their students from Sandy Hook School.  We honor them each day in our classrooms in which we continue their dream of teaching our children.  We honor their memory with our service.  Join with teachers everywhere in committing random acts of kindness to show our love for Sandy Hook.
Thanks to my pal Greg over at Kindergarten Smorgasboard for creating this opportunity to share about the event through social media.

Force and Motion Fun!

We have begun our Super fun unit on force and Motion.  Here are a few pics of the introductory lessons.
The kiddos worked together to find pushes and pulls in magazines, cut them out, and sort them into a giant Venn Diagram.

I just LOVE these Giant Venns.  I use them in so many different ways.  Just trace the bottom of a large trash can onto bulletin board paper twice and voila giant Venn Diagram.

These two were having a very spirited conversation on whether a purse would be a push or a pull.  They final decided on both.  Because, "When you open the purse to get out your keys you are pulling it but when you get home from work and you are tired you just toss it down on the table and that would be a push"………Gotta love that!!! HA!

This lesson and MANY more on in my Force And Motion Unit.  It has over 2 weeks of detailed lesson plans and experiments.  You can get it here for $5.

Here is a fun magnet lesson.  The kiddos build their Rudolph and then try to get him through Santa's village to his sleigh using magnetic rods.

They work with their partner to hold the village that they created and then have to use the rod under the paper to make Rudolph move.

This lesson (and over a weeks worth of other Holiday lessons and experiments) is also available in my store for $4.  Just click here!

Or you can save and purchase both in the bundled set for only $7.

May the FORCE be with you!

Our Thanksgiving Show! ( AND We have a winner.)

Our Tis The Holidays Giveaway  has ended and we have a winner!  Congrats Patricia J.!!

This Thanksgiving my firsties researched pilgrims and their arrival to the new land.  Each student received a letter and had to come up with a new fact (that they learned in their research) that began with that letter.  Then we performed our little ditty in front of our parents and sang a little holiday song.  They also were able to serve their parents some yummy pumpkin pie.  And of course what is Thanksgiving in school with out making butter!!!  We had a blast in all of our efforts to learn true facts about the pilgrims.  Here are a few quick pics! ("V" was absent :0( so of course I don't have a pic of his letter.) I wish I still had the facts that they composed so that I could write them under each letter but I let them take them home.

Shake, Shake, Shake……..Shake your butter!!

Our school has also raised money to adopt a guide dog.  We actually raised enough money to adopt two.  They are now 7 months old and named Milly and Virgil.  We got a visit from Milly this week.  The kids really enjoyed learning how they are helping a blind person be able to receive more help.
Here are some quick pics of Milly's visit:

That's it for now!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!
