MLK Weekend

Okay so this was just too funny not to share.  For those of you who have children you know that when it is loud everything is okay, its those quiet moments that you go "Alright what are you getting into now?".  Well this weekend I was working and the kids were playing.  Then all of a sudden I couldn't hear them any more.  So I went looking all over the house for them.  This is where I finally found them! HA!  I couldn't stop giggling with them.  Yes, they were underneath my youngest's crib!  I must have walked past it 10 times trying to find them and they just thought it was hilarious!

Okay so on to the classroom learning stuff!  Last week we talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and what he stood for.  First we watched a cute little clip about him.  Then we talked about the difference between a "sleepy dream" and a "dream like MLK's".  The next day the kiddos made hand print paintings (one brown hand and one white hand with the earth in the center) and then came up with their own dreams.  They turned out adorable.  Here are a few pics of the kiddos in the process!

Space Craftivity

Here are a few photos of our Space craftivity in progress.  We are still working on adding background images to the skies for the earth and the moon portion of the book.  Each year I forget how cute this craftivity is and how the kiddos are so excited to do them.  When we finish the unit I will post finished books.  This is just the beginning!  And yes, that is food you see in the picture. We have snack time while we are completeing work sometimes! (Come on, I know I am not the only teacher that lets them eat and work!!!
The earth and moon page. This kiddos still hadn't added the stars with white chalk for the background.

The Star page.  They love anything they can glitter!

This is the cover page and yes snack too!

Here it the unit we are working on.  You can get it at my TpT store.

Back it up!

I had a horrible scare this week!  My computer crashed!  I am usually very good about backing up all of my stuff but I hadn't done it in awhile.  I was in tears the majority of the day on Thursday because of this, only to compose myself when the kiddos were in the room!  Let me tell you, that is one of the hardest things to do.  Put on that everyting is happy face and keep on truckin!  Thankfully my WONDERFUL tech teacher was able to at least salvage my hard drive so nothing was lost. But OMG, what a feeling to think that you have lost everything that you built in a span of years in a matter of seconds.   My advice to you, BACK IT UP frequently!!!!!!

Snow in Florida!

Since we live in Florida and there is never ANY snow, I decided to bring the snow to my kiddos.  We took a little brain break and went outside to write our sight words in the snow, build miniature snowmen, and make snowballs.  We had a blast!!! All you need to make the snow is cornstarch and shaving cream.  Mix together until you get the correct consistancy and there you have it!  Here are a few photos of our fun!

Prediction Pail

This is a Prediction pail.  When I introduce a new story for Shared Reading we always take a picture walk first and make predictions.  The kiddos write their predictions on a prediction page then fold them up and put them in the pail.  The next day we read the story.  The kids are so excited to open up their prediction pages and show everyone if they predicted what would happen!

No More Flying Dice!

I found this idea on Pinterest.  Put dice inside mini containers to help with "flying dice" control.  I love this idea especially this year because I have some boys who sometimes forget how to keep the dice in their area!  When I clicked on the link in Pinterest it led me to Molly at Lessons With Laughter who found the actual idea from Denise at Sunny Days in Second Grade.   Thanks so much for sharing ladies!
